While home for Christmas, my mom and I braved the winter weather to make a stop at Flying Fingers in Tarrytown, NY. My mom bought me some beautiful Colinette Prism yarn in Raphael. The Colinette Prism yarns are double ply (I think - I'm new at this lingo) made of thick fluffy wool wrapped with thin cotton thread. And what beautiful hand-dyed colors! I chose the jewel toned Raphael but there were some pretty bright colors as well (which I would have bought but I'm trying to take it one project at a time right now!).
I attempted Ysolda Teague's Urchin beret... however, I messed up somewhere along the way. My beret looks more misshapen than urchin-esque. I didn't focus on gauge - which from the looks of it was pretty important - and, needle size might have been off. (Now I know that gauge and needle size are pretty important...oops.)
I'll leave the beret for now, work on some socks (my first sock attempt ever!), then in a week's time reassess. It was a quick knit so I can unravel it and start over easy enough. =)
